Cameronian Arts Awards

"Oh wow! You totally look like a vintage 40's catwoman..like in a vintage Noir film!" said Rohaizad as soon as he saw me dressed as my interpretation of catwoman for the superheroes themed Cameronian Awards at the Mandarin Oriental last night.

I bought the mask and cat's ears in Singapore on Friday. I went down for a meeting to plan one of our shooting locations in the next round. I just happened to walk into Far East Plaza (I think) and found a shop with all kinds of weird masks on display out the front of the shop. Within a few minutes, I was walking out the shop with the mask and the ears...The simple black dress is the same one I wore in my photo shoot with Jay.

I was totally expecting to see all kinds of superheroes at the Mandarin Oriental last night. But, I was pretty much the only person in costume. (?????!!!!) I found that quite disappointing. I really wanted to see LOTS of people dressed up in costumes. Is it really that hard to make just a little bit of effort to follow a theme? I did think what the Rhythm in Bronze group did was cute. They all wore t-shirts with a superhero picture or logo on it.

Sean Ghazi and Liza Hanim started the awards show with a very sexy performance.

Pat Ibrahim and Rohaizad presented the awards in the Theatre category. Pat first started training me as a performer when I was 14 years old. When I started doing shows at TV3 such as Anugerah Juara Lagu, he was the choreographer. Now, you will see his creative genius in productions such as Puteri Gunung Ledang the musical and P.Ramlee the musical. I love working with Pat and the last time we performed together was at Istana Budaya about 3 years ago in a production called Emas 10. I hope it's not too long before we can do something together again. Rohaizad is now based in Singapore and a production he directed called Ops Ophelia I appeared in the video as part of the performance. I had to "drown" several times in a swimming pool.

Tony Eusoff and Mia Palencia presented the awards in the Music Category.

And Pang who runs the art space called the Annexe Central at Central Market and myself presented the awards in the Dance category.

All of the presenters were given front row seats with our names on it.

From left to right, Rohaizad, Pat, Mia and Pang...

Some familiar faces at the event included Nell Ng, Harith Iskandar, Afdlin Shauki, Chedd Yusof and Melissa Saila.

The cast of P Ramlee the musical receiving award for Audience Choice in the Theatre category. Datin Seri Tiara gave a thank you speech.

That's Adlin who won best original script and best director for P. Ramlee the musical.

There was an after party but as always, there was no food, or if there was I didn't see it, too crowded and limited drinks served. So I said my good byes and went home.

When I reached home, Lord Derbyshire looked absolutely stunned when he saw me.

"Why.....why.....why do you suddenly have ears like me?!" I could see him thinking to himself.

I really wanted to take a picture with each of them but it was difficult considering Lord was more interested in having some kind of WWF wrestling match with Tippex.

But I somehow managed to get a photo with each of them.

I wonder if I will ever get a chance to wear those ears again......
