Mummy and Baby

We have both been sick with a bad cough for more than a week !

Almost two weeks now !

Sick mummy and sick baby is a very tiring combination - for mummy!

I am starting to recognise all the nurses at the hospital now because we have been there so many times.

Sometimes I think it would be easier if I just stayed there.

slowly slowly...

So while pregnant it was a good excuse not to exercise the way I used to at all.

But baby is one month now. So time to slowly start building up muscle strength again. Wow, I'm feeling muscles I haven't felt in almost a year!

But its a good start.. Slowly slowly I will be strong again

Rising Sun Over Malaya

During the last few months of my pregnancy, my final project was working on the documentary 'Rising Sun Over Malaya' in collaboration with Novista, the same producers that produced the Highland Towers documentary.

It was a very eye opening and heart wrenching experience. I met people who actually survived working on the death railway, read and watched countless interviews with people who lived through this horrific time in our history. There were several days where I would drive home after work in tears thinking about all the stories of the survivors and how they have spent the rest of their lives trying to move on from the memories.

When we were shooting the re-enactment scenes, I remember watching the shoots and thinking to myself 'we're not making this up! all of this horrible stuff actually happened! this is not some story Lara (the producer) made up for fun. We really are re-enacting what the survivors told us. My God! '

Due to medical reasons I had to leave the project a few weeks before final completion so I am excited to see the final cut this Sunday 15 February 2012 when it premieres on Astro Channel 555 - History Channel 10 pm.

The synopsis of the documentary is as follows

The Second World War in Malaya from 1941-1945 was a time of darkness and despair - where innocent lives were lost and blood ran freely. The Japanese rule with an iron hand, slaughtering tens of thousands of Chinese citizens. They force young women to work as sex slaves, or ‘comfort women’ and trick others into working on the notorious ‘Death Railway’. The people of Malaya struggle for survival. When the Japanese surrender in 1945, Malaya plunges into a period of turmoil that brings it to the brink of civil war. But amidst the fire and ruins, sparks of resilience and courage grew. The painful war experience gave a great impetus to a new awakening. “Rising Sun Over Malaya” tells this little known story through the eyes of the people of Malaysia who had a personal observation of the occupation.

Repeat showings - 16 February -10am : 18 February - 6am
19 February - 9pm : 20 February -8pm : 21 February - 8am

This is a must watch documentary!

Dior Couture 2012 - Absolutely Beautiful!!!

If I could I would buy almost everything in this collection. And despite Galliano leaving Dior in early 2011 the brand has seen a rise in sales. With collections like these it's no wonder why. Its absolutely beautiful. Really goes back to the silhoutte which Mr Christian Dior himself made popular and sought after when he was designing.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.........................

Never been so exhausted in my life. Not very sure what day it is. Thankfully one look at my handphone and I can at least find out what time it is and then check what day it is too.

But tonight it will be 3 weeks since my baby arrived. It has flown by very fast.

Baby statistics

Despite all best efforts to have a natural birth, things didn't go as planned and we had to make the decision to have an emergency Caesarian because baby suddenly went into distress. The heart rate went very high and wasn't coming down. I have never been so scared in my whole life. Once decision was made within half hour I was in operating theatre and praying. I was so worried even then that maybe we were too late. But Alhamdullilah, baby was born safely and is doing well. The doctor later told me that during surgery she saw why baby was in distress and she had to really be careful and make an effort to get him out. His head was stuck in the wrong position so he couldn't move or progress with normal delivery so started struggling and the heart rate went up. Here are some baby statistics.

Birthday - 14th January 2011
Weight - 3.75 kilos (no wonder I was suffering!)
4 excited grandparents
4 aunties
2 uncles
3 cousins
2 happy, relieved, grateful and thankful parents

Picture and name of baby coming soon

Now I'm trying to learn how to breast feed and take care of myself too so I can recover from surgery as soon as possible. I am so thankful to whoever invented painkillers!

Maternity fashion tips I have learnt

Above is the gorgeous and pregnant Miranda Kerr on the cover of Vogue Australia. I never looked this good while pregnant (I bet she doesn't look like this either while throwing up with morning sickness) but I have learnt along the way a few tips and tricks which do help.

1) - wear dark colours
black is fantastic, so is dark blue. anything printed or colourful makes me feel like a walking sofa.

2) - wear big jewellery
big necklaces, big earrings, big bangles. I call doing this 'fashion diversion'. Basically the big necklace or earrings you are wearing, the more bling bling the better, diverts attention away from expanding stomach, butt.... well, let's face it, EVERYTHING expands!

3) - wear long one piece maxi dresses
very comfortable, makes you look longer. I haven't worn a pair of pants in months. I didn't even buy a pair of maternity pants. Actually, I didn't buy any maternity clothes. just about 6 black maxi dresses that i keep changing and wearing different jewellery with.

4) - wedges
if you really want to wear high heels, at least make them wedges. chances of falling over are less. except from about month 7 onwards, when only black slippers seem to be the most comfortable thing to wear. I haven't worn high heels in months either. SOB!!!

5) - wear supportive underwear
the body shape wear at Uniqlo is great. hides bulges well. :)

6) - wear a belt
I have one black elastic belt which I have worn so much during pregnancy. wear it on the maxi dress, just under bust line to create nice empire line. adds shape to silhoutte so i don't look like walking black mountain. well, ast least reduces it... hahahahahahah!

7) - doing hair and make up helps
yes, it's the last thing i felt like doing sometimes, but just a bit of powder, mascara and lip gloss and tying hair into high ponytail with a nice glittering hair clip helps make you look presentable, eventhough i definitely didn't feel like presenting anything sometimes. :)

8) - kaftans
the most comfortable thing to wear at home. pregnant or not!
