When I woke up on saturday morning, i checked my emails and I received an email from a close friend with a link about the landslide that had happened at bukit antarabangsa just a few hours earlier.
The photos I have seen in the papers and the heart breaking stories I have read the past few days are all too painfully familiar to me. Regular readers of this blog, you know why. Because my family and I were one of the families affected by the landslide which caused Highland Towers to collapse almost 15 years ago. We lost our 3rd floor apartment and all our belongings in Block 1, the tower that fell. We also lost good friends and neighbours in the tragedy. I attended more funerals in December 1993 than I have my whole life.

My heart goes out to all the residents. I understand the pain, confusion, despair and hope you are all feeling.
I am deeply saddened. Nothing has been learnt in the past 15 years. The number of deaths will continue to rise and more people will suffer.
During this time, dear residents, you will find strength, courage and friends you will never knew you had and you will never forget. One day you will understand what I mean.
I could write a very long posting on what I think and how I feel.... but it will not change or undo anything that has happened. I cannot bear to look at the photos or read the stories. It breaks my heart too much.
Al- Fatihah
