Happy Deepavali !

As usual I had a very busy and exciting Deepavali.

I always love the decorations around this time. The picture above was taken at a Deepavali open house I attended at the Mandarin Oriental.

While I was there I someone wearing a very unique saree. It had Andy Warhol style portraits on it of Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai.

And this was my little boy in his Deepavali outfit. Off white kurta with gold sequins. Yes, I am introducing him to bling bling. How can you NOT wear a sequinned kurta on Deepavali ?!

And next year, I want to try and do a kolam. These were some of the beautiful kolam on display in the lobby of my office building. Everyone who walked past admired them and many were taking pictures too.

Reebok Marvel X Collection is here !!!

This afternoon, the much anticipated Reebok Marvel X Collection 

arrived in our Malaysian stores.

I visited my usual One Utama store and saw the display

 of five shoes from the collection near the front.

I immediately fell in love with the Black Widow design.

The shoes are comfortable and pretty stylish to me. 

Along with my Alicia Keys for Reebok shoes, 

these are also one of my favourites!

The shoelaces are a really nice bronze gold colour.

Now just have to think of an outfit to match with it. Hmmmm......

Reebok Marvel X Collection

OH OH.... I  just found out... Reebok has a new limited edition collection coming out next week. 

A special collaboration where the shoe designs are inspired by Marvel Comics characters.

I have got my eye on the Black Widow and White Queen.

Looks like I will be back at the Reebok store next week.

I need another shoe cupboard just for my Reebok shoe collection.

Alicia Keys for Reebok collection - love it !

 

 When I heard that Alicia Keys was doing a special collection with Reebok, I was so excited. I remember I was driving to pick up my baby when I heard it mentioned on the radio. I was a bit worried at first that it might not be stocked here in Malaysia. But IT IS !!! Yay!!!

My absolute favourites are the black ones with the gold and silver detailing. And how cool are the black classic high tops with the piano design at the heel area?! The gold part of that shoe at first glance may not seem like anything, but after looking at it more closely I realised its actually the silhoutte of the New York skyline. Very nice detail.

I could not and would not decide to only get one pair, so I got all three of the black and gold designed ones. Haven't worn them out of my house yet cause I don't want them to get dirty or wet or anything! Just love looking at them on my stairs.

After trying all of them on and walking around my house in them, the most comfortable pair 

are the ones with the white trim at the bottom.

Shopping for Home of Peace at Tesco

 

 Last week I did another round of shopping at the new Tesco extra at Mutiara Damansara for charity using the vouchers I won from their launch event and this time all purchases were for Home of Peace. This charity educates girls who come from underprivileged backgrounds and I called their absolutely lovely caretaker and asked her what do they really need. She said a clothes dryer is an urgent necessity so I was very glad to find that Tesco sells them so ordered one for her straightaway and it is on the way to them.

I then also decided to get new bedsheets for all the girls and some rice. You see the empty section on the shelves in the picture above? I caused that. I put everything from that section into the trolley.

 

 Today I finally had a chance to go over and visit them at the home and there were two little girls who were so excited about getting new bedsheets. One was worried someone else would get the pink coloured ones she hid one of them to make sure it was hers!

I had a lovely chat with their caretaker Justine and she shared with me the many challenges and heartbreaks she faces in what she believes is her calling in life. Raising, educating and loving 16 girls is no easy feat. As I sat on the sofa talking to her with three little girls arranging and rearranging the bedsheets around us as some kind of game, I was reminded that it is people like her that make me believe that angels do exist here on earth. She is one of many I am sure.

A friend on Facebook found these very vintage adverts, advertising how to put on weight ! 

Wow.... I should have been born then !

How ironic. Then they wanted curves, now many want to be stick thin insects.... myself included actually... And how advertising changes over the years reflecting the wants, needs and desires of consumers.

Tesco Charity Hunt in conjunction with reopening of Tesco extra in Mutiara Damansara

To celebrate the opening of the new Tesco extra at Mutiara Damansara, I was invited to participate in an Explorace/ Amazing Race style game in Tesco at their official launch. It was a fun event and experience with us girls, myself and Charlene on one team and the boys, Sherson and Alvin on another team. We had to do a variety of tasks and us girls almost won, but we couldn't find the capsicum !!! aaargh ! I could try and claim that they cheated somehow, but they won fair and square. :)

 

However, us girls did not go home empty handed. We still won RM 5000 in Tesco vouchers which we are to use to buy items for Tesco for whatever charities we are passionate about. Wooooo hooooo ! YAY !

One charity that I am passionate about is PAWS in Subang. So I gave them a call and asked them what do they need. With a list in hand and with my brother, Shakeil coming along with me to help, we headed to Tesco ready to shop.

All the items we bought were cleaning items and the guy at the checkout asked, 

'Ini semua untuk rumah ke?' (Are these all for a house?)

I pointed to my brother and replied  

'Ya, rumah dia. Dah sepuluh tahun dia tak bersihkan rumah' 

(yes, for him, he hasn't cleaned his house in ten years.)

hahahahahahahahahahahahah! I think he believed me so I then 

explained why we were really buying so many cleaning products.

 

So we packed up the car and headed straight to Subang where the staff helped us bring all the items in. 

And my brother said hello to all the cats. :)

 

A big thank you to Tesco for giving me this opportunity to support charities close to my heart with your generosity. I still have some more vouchers and more will benefit from my purchases. We will be shopping again very soon!! The new Tesco is really nice and big and spacious. Can't wait to go back!

Gangnam style at Karnival Nusajaya

At the recent Karnival Nusajaya held in Johor, I was there to participate in the activities in the NTV7 and 8TV  booth. As you can see in this video I captured while I was there, some of the kids who participated in the activities held in the booth, really got into the 'gangnam style' spirit of things.

It was a lot of fun watching them enjoy themselves. 

Recording audio books at the Malaysian Association for the Blind

As part of my research for an upcoming episode of Magseven, I visited the Malaysian Association for the Blind and learnt so much. While I was there I saw a little area which they use as a recording studio where volunteers come in and record their voices reading whatever is given to them onto this computer which is then used by people who visit the Association's library.

I volunteered some of my time yesterday and read a whole chapter from an STPM text book. Took me two hours to complete it. But it was worth it to me. A very humbling experience as it made me realise how much i take my pretty much perfect eyesight for granted.

As I was talking to the PR staff, Siti, who lost her eyesight gradually from the age of four years old, she suggested I give to their librarian a soft copy of my book in Microsoft word format and they can convert it into a braille book so that it can be added to their library. I am very excited at the thought of my Dansa book being converted into a book that the blind can read. I never thought about doing this before and I am so grateful that I visited them now.

Now I just need to find the Microsoft word version of my book. I hope it's on my laptop somewhere. :)
